inspiration

this is jacob's nursery. (his crib is in the other corner).  very gender neutral because matt and i wanted to be surprised when i gave birth, and i decorated the room for either a boy or girl.  the whole bird theme started when i spray painted this tiny tree from our backyard and perched little craft birds on the branches.

now this little tree will serve as inspiration for a baby shower i am throwing for a friend in 2 weeks.  the theme?  "nesting".

these cupcakes will also make an appearance at the shower.  my sister would love them as she is addicted to frosting-coated cupcakes.

and this mobile will be the centerpiece in the living room. i just love mobiles.  afterward i can hang it in jacob's room.  it looks so easy to make.  i have so many extra scraps of cool paper and this will be the perfect craft to use them.

my funny valentine

i first saw this poster on the cover of domino magazine a while ago. since then i keep thinking how it would be fun in our bedroom. unfortunately, i don't think matt would like the pink.

i love funny things.  and i especially love funny valentines.  my favorite is the black doiley heart. it reminds me of gwyneth in the royal tenenbaums.

these are all valentines you could have sent someone from kate spade's site. i guess it's never too late.  image via ohjoy

good morning!

i was so excited about this blog i couldn't sleep. and then when i woke up i was still thinking about it. finally, a place to put all my ideas before i forget them. and of course to talk about how smart my almost 11 month old jacob is.  a few pictures to document his cuteness.

which one?

so we are finally looking at buying a highchair for jacob. it's getting almost impossible to feed him sitting in his little bumbo seat because he's so wiggly. of course i want it to be kind've cool looking since they are so big and take up so much room.  i really like the ikea highchair (above) but it doesn't look very comfty. i also like the svan highchair (below), but it's pricey.

this is my favorite, but it doesn't come with a tray attachment. so ix-nay on this one. it also comes in 6 other fun colors like teal and orange which would look so nice in our dining room. also, pricey.

and then there is the vintage-retro highchairs which i absolutely love. these 2 i found on ebay. i'm still holding out for the perfect one. it has to be 1. clean  2. in good shape  3. safe  4. comfy 5. attractive.  and not in that order.

the non-diaper-bag bag

my mom no longer buys me christmas and birthday gifts, she sends me money to buy an item that i have been needing/wanting. usually wanting.  i remember being so disappointed when this coming of age happened... now i love it.  at long last--- thee diaper bag of my dreams.  (i must mention it is not marketed as a diaper bag which makes me feel cooler when i carry it full of diapers and jars of butternut squash) it also snaps on the sides for an a-frame shape.

it's by crystalyn kae, an artist from seattle. how appropriate you say. yes, it is. i now love seattle for another reason.  it is also a "vegan" bag, which personally i think is a way to make vinal sound stylish and expensive.

new shoes

these are my new shoes that matt bought me for my birthday. they are from patagonia's new "outside in" collection, called sugar & spice.  how sassy. basically they are 2 shoes in one- casual and dressy, rainy day and monday, keen and ballet flat.  made without glue or toxic materials.  i guess that's good too.

also on my wishlist is a pair of hip and not-momish sneakers, something to spice up the mom-clog look. something comfy and cute for my new art classes and for all the shlepping i do to and fro with diaper bag on one arm, jacob in the other, keys dangling from my mouth until i have a free hand to grab them to lock the door, and other random objects and art supplies. i like these pumas in green (but not sure about the red). and how cute would jacob look in these. i think i like his more than mine but they don't have this style in adults sizes.

wall stickers

i wish i had seen this coat rack before we installed ugly yet functional hooks in our kitchen. it is a huge wall decal with coat hooks that i think you can place wherever you choose to put them.  this would have been much cuter. although i'm not sure if it could support the weight of 3 winter coats/hook we currently have going on now.

i'm loving these "wall stickers" from ferm living.  i think i know of a perfect spot for the lovebirds in our house. and the world map. and the owls. and the branch. the power pole might be a little much although i think it's my favorite... 4 stickers might be a little excessive. just too many options.

i love these chairs too.
